Prague Restaurant Guide 2025

Prague has long attracted tourists from all over the world who come for its beauty and return for the food. Anyone who has explored the city knows that beyond the center, there are plenty of excellent restaurants and pubs where you can find both local and international options.

This guide is written by Nehoray Saban, a chef and culinary tour guide in Prague who has lived in the city for over a decade. He works to make Prague’s restaurants accessible to tourists.

Prague hasn’t always been known as the most “culinary” city in Europe. After enduring long wars, it wasn’t until 1989 that Western influences started to permeate, and the restaurant culture began to emerge. Fortunately, restaurant service has continued to improve, and the Michelin Guide arrived in Prague a few years ago. As a result, dining out has become more popular in recent years. On our tours, you’ll discover local restaurants, as well as those from different countries that have arrived in Prague over the years. Dining out is increasingly popular, and our tours offer a unique opportunity to explore both local and international restaurants. With us, you can taste the authentic flavors of traditional Czech cuisine as well as dishes from around the world. We promise you’ll enjoy the delicious culinary experiences awaiting you on our tours!

What to Know Before Dining at a Restaurant in Prague

  1. Look for Czech restaurants—they are often the best.

  2. First, you order a beer, and then you order food.

  3. Don’t call a waiter over with hand gestures; instead, make eye contact.

  4. Tipping? While not obligatory, it’s customary to leave around 10%, unless you’re having lunch in a simple place where rounding up the bill is acceptable.

  5. Don’t ask for beer without foam—I'll explain why during the tour.

  6. Look for restaurants in side streets, away from tourist-heavy boulevards.

  7. Street sausages aren’t that great—find them in restaurants instead.

  8. If you’re seeking Vietnamese cuisine, there are plenty of options in the city. One recommended dish is Bun Bo Nam Bo with stir-fried beef.

  9. Leave the city center! Prague has 22 districts, so it’s worth taking an Uber or public transport to explore other unique and tasty neighborhoods.

  10. Lunch is usually served Monday through Friday from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with daily changing menus priced to fit any budget.

  11. On Fridays and Saturdays, markets take place throughout the city, so if you love food, make sure to include them in your Prague itinerary.

Asian Restaurants in Prague

Prague is home to a rich variety of Asian cuisine, with Vietnamese restaurants playing a major role. This is mainly due to the influx of Vietnamese people who arrived in Prague during the communist era, many of whom stayed and opened restaurants, shops, and markets. Naturally, you’ll find unique Asian food influences on our tours. Today, you can find an amazing array of Vietnamese restaurants across Prague, as well as other Asian restaurants offering cuisine from Korea, Japan, China, and beyond. Whether you're looking for traditional dishes or something more experimental, Prague's vibrant Asian food scene has something for everyone.

Sia Restaurant is an ideal spot for a romantic Friday night dinner. They specialize in all types of Asian cuisine, including their famous Peking duck, which is particularly delicious.

Sasazu Restaurant is another fantastic option if you're looking for a great place to relax with drinks and amazing background music. They offer indulgent dishes from the Far East that you shouldn’t miss—especially their famous corn soup, which is simply incredible!

Sushi lovers, take note—while you’ll find sushi on nearly every corner of Prague, I believe the best sushi in the city is at Yamato restaurant, where I felt like I was transported to Japan with a sushi master preparing some of the best sushi I’ve ever had. Another top sushi spot in Prague is Hanabi, which offers not only great sushi but also a unique concept called "Shabu Shabu" (known to us as hot pot). For just 700 CZK for two people, you’ll get a boiling soy broth in the center of the table, along with beautifully presented meats, vegetables, sauces, and spices to cook yourself!

For those craving good Indian food, K THE TWO BROTHERS is my top recommendation. Located within walking distance of Palladium Mall, this small corner restaurant has won numerous awards for its excellent cuisine, with frequent celebrity visitors from around the world. I highly recommend the butter chicken and chicken tikka masala. They also offer flexible vegetarian and vegan options. Another excellent Indian restaurant is Sangam, which, while not in the city center, is easily accessible and has an outstanding menu offering unique dishes from across India.

If you’re looking for premium steaks, I recommend Kantyna, which is actually a butcher shop where you can find prime cuts and a wide selection of sausages, some of which are made from beef. The concept is simple but of a very high standard, and as someone who writes about food all day, I can confidently say that this is my favorite meat restaurant in Prague!

For delicious smoked meats, Big Smokers is the place to go! Their selection of meats is unmatched, and their smoking process ensures a delicious result every time. Whether you’re after brisket, ribs, or pork belly, Big Smokers has something for everyone, even vegetarians.

For an unforgettable culinary experience, try Čestr Restaurant, which offers a delicious menu of Czech cuisine, including their famous beef tartare and sauna-cooked roast beef. We recently tried it and were amazed by its flavor and tenderness!

Whether you’re looking for fine dining in the heart of the city or casual meals in the surrounding neighborhoods, there’s always something to suit every taste.

Field Restaurant is an iconic spot in Prague that has held its Michelin star for many years and is considered one of the leading establishments in the city's gastronomy scene. From traditional Czech recipes to modern European cuisine, I found Field to be a solid choice, although it didn’t blow me away compared to other Michelin-starred restaurants I’ve visited worldwide.

La Degustation is a fine dining experience offering a unique tasting menu inspired by classic Czech dishes. The menu features an exciting array of dishes, ranging from traditional recipes to modern interpretations of Czech classics. Every dish is created with attention to detail and a focus on local ingredients and culinary traditions. Every meal is prepared with fresh ingredients, and the prices are particularly reasonable. Eska is the perfect place to indulge in truly tasty food without breaking the bank.

The Eatery Bistro is the perfect spot for a casual yet sophisticated evening. Their variety of flavors and dishes—from seasonal game to meticulously designed recipes—are sure to surprise and delight you. Don’t forget to check out their excellent wine menu.

Fish Restaurants in Prague

As a landlocked country, the Czech Republic doesn’t have access to the sea, but during the summer, locals enjoy cool riverside beaches. Fortunately, thanks to daily deliveries of fresh fish from across Europe, the quality of fish and seafood in the Czech Republic has soared in recent years. The most common fish in restaurants today are sea bream, sea bass, and salmon. Popular seafood includes shrimp, mussels, oysters, octopus, and calamari.

Blue Fjord is a personal favorite for restaurants that feel like markets, where you can choose your ingredients. In Blue Fjord, you’ll feel like you're in a Spanish market, with display cases brimming with fish from various European countries. You can choose from a variety of sizes and types of seafood. The chef will offer you a cooking method, and you can add your own preferences. Fish is priced by weight, and cooking is an additional 90 CZK.

For those who enjoy large restaurants that run like clockwork, pay attention to Bruxx, a fantastic seafood restaurant located in the Vinohrady neighborhood. The restaurant focuses on Belgian cuisine, offering excellent seafood and fish alongside crispy Belgian fries served with a variety of amazing sauces. Come looking your best—this place is Instagram-worthy!

Where to Have Breakfast in Prague?

Breakfast in Prague should be a treat! From cozy cafés to bustling brasseries, the Czech capital has breakfast spots for everyone. Whether you're looking for traditional Czech pastries or want to try something more exotic, you'll find it in one of Prague's many amazing restaurants. Get ready to start your day with the best breakfast Prague has to offer!

Eska, located in the vibrant Karlin neighborhood, is known for its excellent breakfast menu and indulgent lunch options that are sure to tempt your taste buds. It’s the perfect place for a great meal without breaking the bank.

However, my personal favorite breakfast spot is a small restaurant in Prague 6 called Místo.

IPPA Café offers colorful and exciting breakfast dishes based on avocado, salads, and poached eggs, along with a wide variety of desserts and ice creams.

Cafe Sofa offers a Japanese-inspired breakfast with intriguing influences from around the world, from Japanese soups to Moroccan Mufleta pancakes! Yes, in Prague! They have a rich menu throughout the day, and their drink menu is entirely based on different matcha flavors. Highly recommended!

If you want to really treat yourself, you can enjoy a 'Michelin-style' tasting breakfast at Bockem Restaurant, where the concept is to dress elegantly for breakfast.

Where to Have Pizza in Prague?

Something unusual is happening with pizzas in Prague. While it’s a very popular street food, the number of pizzerias in Prague is simply insane. There's a vast selection of both thin and thick pizzas, Italian and Western styles. I have to start by saying that my personal favorite is Pepenero. I’m not sure if it’s the best in the city, but for me, it’s the perfect pizza—the size is just right, with a heavenly crust and the perfect amount of tomato sauce. I could eat the sauce by the spoonful. During my workdays, I sometimes pass by pizzerias and stop in for lunch. Occasionally, I go to Gambrorosso, which is actually an amazing restaurant for dinner too. The staff is nice, and the pizza is excellent, with great starters that are worth trying.

Sasy Pizza recently moved to a more central location to attract more foot traffic. It used to be farther out of the city in a smaller spot with long lines. Once they moved, the buzz followed, but the pizza is still one of the best I’ve had. I must mention that Prague only has two pizzerias certified as Neapolitan, and those are Pizza Nuova, which recently ranked 49th among the best pizzerias in the world outside of Italy, and San Carlo, which is well-known because they have several locations in the city. Their pizza is very precise, though the last time I had it, it was a bit under-salted. Still, it’s definitely one of the best pizzerias in Prague. Lastly, another one to add to the list is Da Piatro, which I originally discovered in the city of Pilsen during a food search. Many locals claim it’s the best pizza in Prague, but… they’re all fantastic!
